The Box Tops are best remembered for their mega hit, “The Letter,” which topped The American singles charts for four weeks during 1967.
They had six other top forty hits as well within a three year period.
“Choo Choo Train” contained another gritty vocal by Alex Chilton who would go on to form the band Big Star. It may not have been as melodic as “The Letter” but it did have a subtle appeal. It would reach number 26 on the BILLBOARD MAGAZINE singles charts.
The Box Tops would disband in 1970 leaving behind a small but tasty catalogue of top forty hits.
