Surf’s Up 45 by The Beach Boys

I consider The Beach Boys SURF’S UP album to be one of their most underrated. While it reached number 29 on the BILLBOARD MAGAZINE Pop Album Chart, it changed their sound, as the lyrics were more socially conscious.

The title song was written by by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks and was a song originally composed for the legendary SMILE album.

“Surf’s Up” was also released as a single, November 8, 1971. The flip side was “Don’t Go Near The Water.” I have been a Beach Boys collector since the 1960s and have never seen a commercial copy of the single.

Every once in awhile, a record company would issue promotional copies of a single but very few if any commercial copies. “Surf’s” up received little airplay and no chart action.
