Manfred Mann has gone through a number of incarnations since their formation during 1964. They started out as a British Invasion band producing a catchy brand of rock and pop.
Lead by keyboardist Manfred Mann, drummer Mike Hugg and vocalist Paul Jones. Their first chart single in the United States was “Do Wah Diddy Diddy,” which was released Septenber 5, 1964. It would prove successful topping the BILLBOARD MAGAZINE Pop Singles Chart for two weeks.
It was an American song written by the team of Jeff Barry and Elle Greenwich and had been first recorded by The Exciters during 1963.
The song made a memorable comeback in the the 1981 Bill Murray film, STRIPES.
