When Doves Cry 45 by Prince

Prince was already a star when he released “When Doves Cry” as a single during the spring of 1984. When all was said and done he was a superstar of the first rank. During the summer of 1984 you could not turn on the radio without hearing the song. It spent five weeks of the summer as the number one song on the BILLBOARD MAGAZINE Pop Singles Chart.

Sometime it is forgotten today, just how influential Prince was during the 1980s. His use of unique rhythms and percussion helped to change the face of American rhythm & blues and funk music. It helped that he was also one of the better guitarists of his era. “When Doves Cry” incorporated all of these attributes into one single.

It was the first of his five number one pop singles and the biggest hit of his career.
