The Orlons were formed in Philadelphia during the early 1960s. They consisted of Rosetta Hightower, Marlena Davis, Steve Caldwell, and Shirley Brickley. Their first three hits, “The Wah-Watusi,” “Don’t Hang Up,” and “South Street,” all made the BILLBOARD MAGAZINE Pop Singles Chart top five.
During the early summer of 1963 they covered a Gary U.S. Bonds song that had failed to reach the Pop Chart in 1961. Maybe it needed a female girl sound but they took “Not Me” to number 12 on the BILLBOARD Chart.
The Orlons would chart nine singles, 1962-1964, but would fade from the scene during the British Invasion era. They would disnand in 1968.
