Kookie Kookie

For the older generation, Ed Byrnes is best remembered as Kookie on the television series, 77 SUNSET STRIP. Another and younger generation remembers him as the prom dance host, Vince Fontaine, in the movie GREASE.

When he was a member of the cast of 77 SUNSET STRIP, he tried to cash in on his teenage idol status by releasing a single and album. “Kookie Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb)” was almost a novelty song and featured Connie Stevens providing the female vocal. It became a big hit reaching number four on the BILLBOARD MAGAZINE Pop Singles Chart during the fall of 1959. It would sell in excess of one-million copies.

He would remain active in the entertainment industry until 1999. Now retired, he is one year short of 80 years old.
