Cilla Black never managed to be a big star in the United States. That was not the case in her native England as she had 11 top 10 singles with two reaching number one; “Anyone Who Had A Heart” and “You’re My World” during 1964. She was the most successful Britiah female artist of the 1960s.

She had a Beatles connection in that Brian Epstein was her manager and George Martin produced her first seven albums. She also recorded a number of Lennon and McCartney songs and was signed to the same label as the Beatles in both the U.K. and the United States.

Yesterday/Love’s Just A Broked Heart reached number seven on the U.K. but received no chart action in the USA. While “Yesterday” was officially the flip side, it was nevertheless was one of the better covers of the classic Beatles song.

Her career has reached the 50 year mark and she remains active as a singer and actress.
