The Turtles were an excellent singles band that placed 17 of their releases on the BILLBOARD Magazine Hot 100, including five that reached the top ten.
The Turtles were formed in 1961 as the Nightriders, then the Crossfires, and finally became the Turtles in 1965. Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan were the leaders with a rotating cast of support musicians.
“She’d Rather Be With Me” was one of their biggest hits reaching number three during mid-1967. It was breezy, feel good pop, which was what the Turtles were all about. They didn’t change rock and roll but they made it a little more fun.
